How to Choose the Best College for My Teenager? Intro It  has been more than 10 years and now I am looking for the best college for my teenager.  If you’re in the same boat, you know the mix of excitement and worry that comes with choosing a college. The truth is, there’s no single “perfect” choice—but there are ways to find the right fit for your child. Why? College isn’t just about getting a degree. It’s where your teen will grow, discover independence, and prepare for life. That’s why finding the best match matters—not the “best” school by rankings, but the one that helps your child thrive. Here’s a quick stat that made me pause: according to the U.S. Department of Education, about 1 in 3 college students transfer schools before graduating. That means many didn’t find the right fit the first time. The goal is to give our kids a better chance at landing somewhere they’ll want to stay. Considerations? 1. Academics Does the school offer strong programs in your...

Start of Classes Blues

Classes are starting again and my son, Aidan, will be in grade one. This means that he will in school the whole day and my husband I  will have our hands full with the preparation and routine. Here are some concerns I have regarding this new chapter in our life He will have to wake up really early. Flag ceremony starts at 645am so he needs to be in school  before. then. He needs  to bathe, dress up and eat breakfast before he is picked up by the school bus at 5:50am. This means he has  to be up by 5am. He needs his  8 hours of sleep so we need to adjust his sleeping time from 1030pm to 9pm at the latest. He will arrive from school at 430pm, rest for an hour then he has to do his homework and studying for 1 hour then dinner and sleep. If he has his Kumon (1 hour) on that day, he will only have 1 hour of downtime before he sleeps for the night. Since he will wake up at 5am, we need to be up before that, maybe at 4am, t...

Emergency situations when you are not home

Image
I have a six year old boy and an 18-month old toddler. My husband and I are out of the house most of the day due to work and business. It is only the helper/yaya that takes care of the kids during daytime. One of the many worries I have are, what if there is an emergency? what if one of my children gets into an accident, like fall off the stairs, choke while eating something, etc. I know I should be more positive but these things could happen. We can always hope for the best, but isn't it better if we prepare for the worse? I don't want to be the mom that will blame the helpers for what will happen because ultimately, we are to blame also. Aside from continuously reminding our children to be more careful and the helpers  to always watch the kids, what can we do? Below is a list of things/reminders that I think are important so I can have peace of mind when I am leaving the kids  alone with the helpers at home. Provide your helper with Emergency Contact Numbers...

Untitled Document In preparation for the birth of my second child, I wanted to look for an alternate hospital to give birth to. I have heard that hospitals are now offering birthing packages for families that are on a budget. I have listed below some of the hospitals I have researched and their respective packages for normal deliveries. My options were around Mandaluyong area, where we live. Makati Medical Center Semi-private room - P57,000 Small private room - P102,000 St Lukes Global City Ward (2 in a room) - P56,000 The New Medical City Ward (4 in a room) - P50,000 Ultimately, I chose St Lukes Global City to give birth to. My OB was accredited in Medical City, St Lukes Global and PGH. She advised to choose St Lukes Global due to a number of reasons : 1. St Lukes-Global is NEW. amenities are top-notch. 2. It is not expensive, contrary to popular belief. Relatively cheap when you compare it to M...
